Blogger & Social Media Tweetup ~ Saturday 1/16/10
Have you ever been to a tweetup?
(A tweetup is a gathering of twitter users in real life so they can get to know each other and socialize.)
I’ve attended a number of St. Louis tweetups and met some great people.
Most of them are centered around cocktails or a meal. I’ve even helped organize a couple of tweetups. One was a last minute lunch at Crooked Tree Coffee House and one was a volunteer event (thanks to @jenn_if_er for helping organize this one since I was a co-chair for the event and couldn’t really focus on the tweetup attendees).
I also really enjoyed the series of Friday lunches last summer organized by Todd Jordan which he called “Bring a Tweet to Lunch” (or BATTL for those of us that like abbreviations). I overhead Todd at our last tweetup and it sounded like he might be starting them up again with a co-planner. I’ll definitely be there when he announces the next one!
UCity Blogger & Social Media Tweetup Tomorrow:
With all of the events going on in The Loop tomorrow (January 16, 2010), I decided to organize a tweetup with the help of @LindaBogie and @jenn_if_er.
Here’s the rundown for the day.
- 8:30-9:30 AM – Registration for runners/walkers for the Frozen Buns Race is at Blueberry Hill. If you are participating in the run, you should contact @jenn_if_er to connect before the race starts.
- 9:30 AM – A group of us are going to meet at St. Louis Bread Co in the Loop at 9:30 AM to grab some coffee before heading outside to watch the Frozen Buns Race. At least a few of us will be taking pictures or shooting video for our blogs and flickr accounts. Photographers, videographers, podcasters, and bloggers are all encouraged to join us. If you do attend, make sure you let me know once you post your pictures or blog posts so I can include it in the post-event information on this site. Not a blogger? That’s ok. You can join us and just enjoy the day.
- 11:00 AM – Let’s meet at Brandt’s to reconnect the group – the runners, 9:30 AM group, latecomers and anyone who just decided to sit out the early morning activities. Brandt’s has a great lunch menu with reasonable prices. I spoke to the owner Adam Brandt today and though they don’t really serve breakfast, he tells me that they have a fabulous bacon, egg & cheese sandwich created for them by an award winning chef.
- 12:00 PM – Around noon, or whenever the group is finished eating, we’ll head out to experience the Ice Carnival. The Ice Carnival is a family friendly event, so feel free to bring the kids along and watch them go down an ice slide or have them collect the temporary tattoos being giving out by 15 stores in a scavenger hunt. Don’t forget to bring your camera or video recorder. I don’t want to be the only one snapping pictures all day!
If you want to hook up with the group at any other time, or want to confirm if we are still at Bread Co or Brandt’s, give me a call at 314-265-8073. You can send me a text or a DM (direct message on twitter) but sometimes I don’t notice them when it gets loud or I get distracted. You can also try @LindaBogie via DM since she’s helping me with organizing and promoting this tweetup.
FYI…everyone is welcome. If you are into UCity but have never logged into twitter, we’d still love to have you!
Leave a comment and let us know if you’ll be coming (along with your twitter name) so we can save enough table space!
